Brand new to Anastasia Island, Bai Tong brings much-needed authentic Thai cuisine and fresh sushi to the St. Augustine dining scene. With Fort Lauderdale in their rear view mirror, owners Tam and Pitt, and additional friends and kitchen staff, opened shop on May 1. Now they are busy serving their beautiful and delicious sushi and authentic Thai dishes. Using the freshest seafood, Tam—who also serves as Bai Tong’s sushi chef—creates art you can eat. Every plate is as beautiful as it is delicious. His one-of-a-kind “Lobster Bomb,” is a tempura-fried Florida lobster tail incorporated into a jaw-dropping, super-sized sushi roll. Laced with tempura flakes and crab and topped with masago and spicy mayo, it is the perfect introduction to Bai Tong. A sushi chef for 17 years and now the happy owner, Tam wants diners to feel like they are specials guests in his home. You will likely be greeted by Pitt, who, as front-of-house manager, is committed to bringingThai hospitality to each guest. In the back-of-the-house, Trin—a Thai native—cooks up amazing Thai specialties using traditional herbs and spices with seafood, chicken, beef, duckling and veggies. Each dish is made to order depending on your taste and tolerance for heat. Choose from traditional Thai-style noodles, curries, pad thai and stirfrys or the unique list of house specialties such as Thai Surf and Turf featuring melt-in-your-mouth filet mignon and lobster, Crispy Grouper served with sweet and spicy chili sauce and Delightful Duck, a crispy roast duck with tamarind sauce.
