Baitong Thai Sushi Authentic Thai Specialties and sushi at the beach
Wanchai Juangpolngam (aka Nong)
Opened in 2017, Bai Tong Thai Sushi brings authentic Thai cuisine and fresh sushi to the St. Augustine dining scene. Owner Wanchai Juangpolngam (he likes to be called “Nong”) is from the small town of Nakhon Ratchasima, in northeastern Thailand. He has 27 years of food industry experience either cooking, being a waiter or owning a restaurant. He traveled the world for 5 years as a waiter on a cruise ship! It didn’t take long for word to get out about how fresh and authentic the food is. Nong and his excellent waitstaff want diners to feel like they are specials guests in their home. You will likely be greeted by Nong himself or Dah Say (known as Pitt), who, as front-of-house manager, is committed to bringing Thai hospitality to each guest. Using the freshest seafood, Bai Tong’s sushi chefs create art you can eat. Every plate is as beautiful as it is delicious. Bai Tong’s one-of-a-kind “Lobster Bomb,” is a tempura-fried Florida lobster tail incorporated into a jaw-dropping, super-sized sushi roll. In the back-of-the-house, native Thai chefs prepare authentic specialties using traditional herbs and spices with seafood, chicken, beef, duckling and veggies. Each dish is made-to-order depending on your taste for heat—Thai-style noodles, curries, pad thai and stirfry. House specialties include Thai Surf and Turf, featuring melt-in-your-mouth filet mignon and lobster; Crispy Grouper served with sweet and spicy chili sauce; and Delightful Duck, a crispy roast duck with tamarind sauce.
