Steps away from the bayfront, the Milltop Tavern & Listening Room offers the city's best burgers, blues and breezes! Originally built as a gristmill in the 1880s, the Milltop was transformed into a bar in the 1950s. After 20 years of successfully serving a loyal and ever-increasing customer base, the owners saw the potential to improve and expand the Milltop experience. They rebuilt and expanded the unique tree house-style interior and decks, and renamed it The Milltop Tavern & Listening Room. In 2016, the tavern’s building and site—which was granted historic landmark status—required a complete renovation. During construction, the owners reinstalled 300-year-old pecky cypress wood panels from the original Milltop interior to recreate its original warm character and the striking acoustics that this type of material provides. With the addition of a full-service kitchen, full bar, and outdoor balcony overlooking St. George Street, the new Milltop was born and remains a favorite for live music, drinks and delicious homemade food for local residents and visitors alike. The comfortable laid-back atmosphere is reminiscent of its centuries-old St. Augustine history.
